dRofus

dRofus is a unique planning, data management, and BIM collaboration tool that provides all stakeholders with extensive workflow support and access to building information throughout the building lifecycle.

Unlike any other planning tool in the market, dRofus was developed directly on behalf of public building owners. Capturing client requirements, management of open standards across projects, and equipment planning are central features in the software.

The customer base of dRofus includes public and private building owners, designers, engineers, and contractors. The software has established a dominant position in the construction of healthcare facilities, airports, and public and institutional buildings.


Strong interoperability

dRofus has strong Archicad, Revit, and IFC integration. It is a tool for the whole project team, not only a tool for owners. Today dRofus is a collaboration platform used by all project stakeholders, where owner requirements are used to validate designed solutions (BIM), with building data evolving through each project stage into facilities management and operations.

Model data from each discipline is captured, together with planning data, non-geometric data and documents in a centralized database accessible to all project stakeholders via the dRofus desktop client and dRofus Web.

Typically stakeholders produce data using different software programs, that have different data schemas, with different filetypes, distributed across multiple servers, located in various locations – and often this data is not re-usable by others.

That is why dRofus has become an essential tool for BIM projects. dRofus consolidates disparate data sets and converts them into project information, insight, and intelligence accessible to all project stakeholders.

Data Centric Approach to BIM

Plan, create, and manage building data input from every stakeholder capturing relevant building/project information for all objects in BIM, cross-domain, discipline, and model, including data outside of the BIM platform.

Track Changes

All changes applied to dRofus are logged. The logs will show who changed what and when. Apply log notes and use change lists to communicate why changes were made. Advanced search capabilities make it easy to schedule or report relevant changes.

Design integration

dRofus` advanced plug-ins to Archicad and Revit provide excellent workflow support for architects and engineers. Integrate program data with the design for the validation of building requirements and bidirectional synchronization between dRofus and project models.

Reports & Exports

dRofus has over 70 built-in PDF reports and Excel exports. It is also possible to create custom PDF reports to fit the project/organization requirements.

Data Standardization

Capture client requirements and manage facility standards across multiple projects. Room templates and global items catalog help standardize rooms and content to kick start new projects.

Secure and Accessible

Data is securely stored on a central server allowing users to connect and read data regardless of their physical location; all you need is a PC and internet connection. User access rights are controlled to ensure data security. Read and write permissions are managed on a detailed level for all modules in dRofus.

For now the dRofus desktop version works only in the Windows environment. Some features are also available in the concise web browser version.

User stories

The Norwegian state manages its projects with dRofus

Statsbygg is the Norwegian state's key advisor regrading construction and real estate matters, property owners, managers and developers. Statsbygg aims to be the state's first choice in organizing and planning and will typically carry out about 140 projects at any time.

As a result of a Public research and development contract (PRD) between Nosyko AS, Statsbygg and Innovation Norway from 2007 until 2010, Statsbygg decided, in 2008, to use dRofus as the main planning tool for their construction projects. Through this cooperation, Statsbygg have been able to implement the tools widely throughout their organization, and at the end of 2010 there were more than 1400 users of dRofus in projects under the control of Statsbygg.

With the introduction of dRofus as a programming database, Statsbygg made it possible to standardize rates and functional requirements for all its building projects, enabling all the involved employees to work with a tool where the client's requirements are updated, and to progress from building programs in Word files to using structured information in dRofus.

A big architectural office succeeds with dRofus

"We could not have delivered the Shellharbour City Hub Project without dRofus." – Ellis Lamond, DesignInc Sydney

DesignInc Sydney has been commissioned to design the new Shellharbour City Hub Stage 1 Civic and Cultural building for Shellharbour City Council. The project has a total floor area of 14,000m2 and includes a new state of the art Library, Museum, 350 seat Auditorium, Council Administrative Offices, Council Chambers and parking.

Having prior experience using dRofus on major Defence and Healthcare Infrastructure projects, DesignInc selected to implement dRofus for the Shellharbour City Hub project to achieve the following goals:
• Provide a centralise database for the Design Team to capture Brief and User requirements.
• Track the Program through Design phase milestones.
• Track the Program through Design phase milestones.
• Record vast quantities of FF&E and validate against Architectural and Services BIM Models.
• Capture Finishes and services requirements.

For several of the Design Team members, this was their first project using dRofus and were surprised by how user friendly dRofus was to operate. Through the use of the intuitive Dynamic GUI interface they were able to customise the setup to meet project deliverables. Furthermore, the use of the dRofus Room Templates allowed the Design Team to expedite the traditional manual task of creating Room Data Sheets capturing core room data, finishes, building services and FF&E requirements that were synchronised to align with BIM Models.
